Watch Your Mailbox: Water Service Line Information
A couple of years ago, the City of Caldwell asked residents to complete a survey about the materials used in their water service lines—the pipes that connect homes and businesses to the City’s water main.
The E.P.A. and K.D.H.E. require an annual pamphlet for anyone whose plumbing was listed as galvanized or unknown. The pamphlet explains the potential dangers of lead in water lines. Those who did not complete the survey were listed as unknown.
-What does “unknown” mean?
It means the City has not been able to verify the pipe material. If you did not return the survey and no other information was available to identify your line, it was listed as unknown.
-Does receiving a pamphlet mean there is lead in my water?
Receiving this notice does not mean lead has been detected in your drinking water. Unknown lines may contain lead, so notification is required until the material is verified.
The E.P.A. and the State Department of Health and Environment treat plumbing made of unknown materials as lead plumbing.
Watch your mailbox for the pamphlet, which will arrive soon.
